January 2021 Update: Accreditation with Conditions extended, 2018-2022CAAM-HP, at its Extraordinary General Meeting held January 20, 2021, decided to extend for an additional year, 2021-2022, the current accreditation status of the medical education programmes offered at The University of the West Indies (UWI).
November 2020 Update The 2020 Progress Report from The University of the West Indies School of Medicine was presented to the CAAM-HP at its Annual General Meeting held November 18-19, 2020. The Authority considered and accepted the report and commended the University for the robust efforts to address the issues raised by the last site visit team. The sincere and proactive approach taken by the University was also noted and the meeting viewed the enhanced student services in a positive light. The Authority expects to receive the documentation in preparation for the site visit in 2021.
July 2019 Update The 2019 Progress Report from The UWI School of Medicine was presented to the CAAM-HP at its meeting held July 25-27, 2019. The Authority considered and accepted the report with commendation and looks forward to receiving the annual progress report for 2019-2020.
July 2018 Update: Accreditation with Conditions extended for three years, 2018-2021 The CAAM-HP at its meeting held July 29-31, 2018 considered and accepted the May 2018 progress report in response to issues previously flagged and, in light of the remarkable progress made, agreed to extend Accreditation with conditions for three (3) years, 2018-2021.
July 2017 Update: Accreditation with Conditions extended for one year, until 2019 The 2017 progress report from the UWI School of Medicine was presented to the CAAM-HP at its meeting held July 20-22, 2017. The Authority considered and accepted the progress report noting the significant progress made in addressing the concerns identified in the 2016 site visit report and commending the work of the Compliance Committee and its working groups. In light of the progress made, the Authority agreed to extend Accreditation with Conditions for one (1) year until 2019.
July 2016 Determination: Accredited with Conditions, 2016-2018 The third full site visit to the School of Medicine at the University of the West Indies by the CAAM-HP took place from April 2-12, 2016. The members of the site visit team were: 1. Professor Samuel Leinster (Team Chair) 2. Professor Anne Garden (Team Secretary) 3. Dr Christopher Cheeseman 4. Dr Mary Coleman 5. Professor Penelope Hansen 6. Professor Christopher Stephens The CAAM-HP at its meeting held July 27-29, 2016 considered and accepted the site visit report of the ad hoc site visit team. Decision: In the light of the issues cited in the report, the Authority accorded Accreditation with Conditions for two (2) years from 2016-2018. CAAM-HP looks forward to receiving the annual progress reports indicating efforts being made to address issues cited in the site visit reports of 2012 and 2016 and in its letter. Failure to comply would result in a redetermination of accreditation status.
July 2015 Update The CAAM-HP thanked the University of the West Indies (UWI) for its progress report of April 2015 in response to CAAM-HP’s letters of June 23, 2012 and July 28, 2014. The CAAM-HP noted that progress was being made in addressing the areas of concern and looks forward to receiving evidence of further progress in the implementation of a common curriculum and the upgrading of student facilities at the Port of Spain General Hospital, Trinidad, following the next full site visit due in 2016. CAAM-HP looks forward to receiving the documentation in preparation for the site visit in April 2016.
