July 2022 Update The 2022 Progress Report from the University of Guyana School of Medicine was presented to the CAAM-HP at its Annual General Meeting held July 25-26, 2022. The report was accepted and the Authority commended the efforts of the School to increase its research output and efforts made to address the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The meeting, however, was concerned about staffing and requested clarity on the role of guest lecturers as well as the role of residents as teachers. Also, it was felt that the School’s quality assurance mechanism needed improvement. The Authority looks forward to receiving the documentation for the next site visit in 2023.
September 2021 Update The 2021 Progress Report from the University of Guyana School of Medicine was presented to the CAAM-HP at its Annual General Meeting held September 22-23, 2021. The Authority was pleased to accept the report and commended the School for the positive actions taken to successfully address the concerns raised during the last accreditation visit. The Board was particularly impressed by the measures taken to mitigate the adverse effects of the pandemic on the students. It is hoped that the accreditation site visit can be undertaken in 2022.
January 2021 Update: Accreditation with Conditions extended, 2017-2022 CAAM-HP, at its Extraordinary General Meeting held January 20, 2021, decided to extend for an additional year, 2021-2022, the current accreditation status of the medical education programme offered at the University of Guyana.
