July 2016 Update: Initial Provisional Accreditation Withdrawn On July 27, 2016, CAAM-HP heard the appeal of the All American Institute of Medical Sciences (AAIMS) for the Authority to rescind its decision to withdraw Initial Provisional Accreditation. The Authority considered the events that led to the appeal and heard statements from representatives of AAIMS who attended the hearing. The Authority decided that AAIMS did not present any compelling evidence to support the rescinding of the withdrawal of Initial Provisional Accreditation. The Authority therefore affirmed its decision of December 01, 2015. The Authority asked that all promotional material, electronic or otherwise, accurately reflect the institution’s current accreditation status.
December 2015 Determination: Pending The All American Institute of Medical Sciences (AAIMS), despite having been warned that failure to submit the documents by the end of September 2015 could result in a withdrawal of initial provisional accreditation, did not meet that deadline. Consequently, the initial provisional accreditation was withdrawn as at December 1, 2015. AAIMS has since appealed the decision. The appeal will be heard at CAAM-HP’s next annual meeting scheduled for July 2016.
July 2015 Update The CAAM-HP at its meeting held July 23-25, 2015 expressed great disappointment at the institution’s apparent lack of readiness for its first full accreditation visit. The school was reminded that new and developing medical schools are expected to have a full accreditation exercise during the fourth year of operation. Failure to submit the documents by the end of September 2015 as promised could result in a withdrawal of initial provisional accreditation.
July 2014 Update The CAAM-HP at its meeting on July 28, 2014 considered the progress report of the All American Institute of Medical Sciences (AAIMS). The meeting noted that the school is preparing for a full site visit in 2015.
October 2013 Update The CAAM-HP at its meeting on October 11-12, 2013 considered the report of the visit of January 28, 2013 and noted that: • The medical course was proceeding as planned, and the facilities and staffing are adequate. • Affiliation Agreements had been submitted. However, the following areas were also flagged: • The smaller number of students than the original targets may have financial implications. • There needs to be established a system of internal tracking of in course results so that overall progress as well as the present individual progress can be monitored. In addition, the meeting requested that information be provided regarding the schedule of rotations for 2013 and the number of passes on the last sitting of the USMLE.
June 2012 Update The CAAM-HP at its meeting on June 22-23, 2012 considered the progress report submitted. The meeting took note that the teaching programme appears to be proceeding satisfactorily and that the facilities were well maintained. The meeting also noted the small number of students enrolled, the majority of whom were Jamaican nationals, and the introduction of a pre-medical programme. CAAM-HP emphasized the urgent need to have firm agreements for clinical rotations given that such rotations are due to begin in January 2013. Failure to concretize this could result in reconsideration of the initial provisional accreditation status.
June 2011 Update The CAAM-HP at its meeting on June 24-25, 2011 considered the progress report submitted. The meeting expressed concern that there is need for clarification of the matriculation requirements and sought clarification as to whether a pre-med programme was being considered. In addition, AAIMS was reminded of the need to solidify arrangements for the clinical rotations and that there would be a site visit early in 2012.
July 2010 Determination: Initial Provisional Accreditation The CAAM-HP, at its meeting held July 2-3, 2010, determined that initial provisional accreditation should be granted to AAIMS provided that remodelling of the buildings is completed within the next two years following which another visit will be paid to determine the school’s readiness to accept its charter class.
