November 2020 Determination: Accreditation Withdrawn The CAAM-HP at its Annual General Meeting held November 18-19, 2020, expressed great concern that there had been no response to its request that the School prepare for a full site visit in 2020. The Authority therefore decided to withdraw the accreditation status of the Doctor of Medicine programme. IAU is reminded that any notification on its website must accurately reflect CAAM-HP’s decision.
July 2019 Determination: Programme placed on Probation, 2019-2020 The 2019 Progress Report from IAU College of Medicine was presented to the CAAM-HP at its meeting held July 25-27, 2019. The Authority considered and accepted the progress report but was concerned that more than half of the issues raised from the last site visit report had not been addressed. The Authority also expressed concern about the financial stability of the school. The Authority determined that the programme be placed on probation for the period 2019-2020. This determination was based on the finding that the school had failed to make satisfactory progress in addressing areas of weakness identified by the Authority and that the level and scope of these areas of non-compliance may seriously compromise the quality of the educational programme and/or may jeopardise the educational attainment of students. The school was asked to prepare for a full site visit early in 2020
July 2018 Determination: Provisional Accreditation for two (2) years, 2018-2020 This was the second full accreditation visit for IAU. The site visit took place March 4-9, 2018 and involved a survey of the basic science campus in St Lucia and clinical affiliates in Baltimore. The site visit team members were: 1. Professor Christopher Stephens (Team Chair) 2. Professor Minerva Thame (Team Secretary) 3. Dr Peter Bell 4. Dr Paula Lashley www.caam-hp.org/assessedprogrammes.html The CAAM-HP at its meeting held July 29-31, 2018 considered and accepted the site visit report of the ad hoc site visit team. Decision: The Authority granted Provisional Accreditation for two (2) years, 2018-2020 and expects to receive annual progress report in 2019 indicating steps taken to address the issues cited in the site visit report and CAAM-HP’s letter.
July 2016 Update: Not Accredited The CAAM-HP at its meeting held July 27-29, 2016 was advised that the International American University (IAU) had decided to withdraw its appeal of the Authority’s decision of July 25, 2015 that it was unable to accredit the MD programme at that time and recommended that the school reapply for accreditation within two (2) years in 2017. Therefore, that decision of July 25, 2015 stands.
July 2015 Determination: Decision being appealed The CAAM-HP thanked the International American University (IAU) College of Medicine for the work done in preparing the accreditation instruments and the arrangements made for the visiting team to the medical school in St Lucia and its clinical affiliate in Chicago, November 1-7, 2014. This was the first accreditation exercise by CAAM-HP. The CAAM-HP at its meeting held July 23-25, 2015 considered and accepted the site visit report of the ad hoc site visit team comprising: 1. Dr Ian Sammy (Team Chair) 2. Professor Owen James (Team Secretary) 3. Dr Paula Wales 4. Professor Jonas Addae Decision: The decision has been appealed by the school and therefore will not be published until the outcome of the appeal.
